Mushtaaz is a story of the life of two commoners in medieval times. The movie is based on a play written by Girish Karnad and its story was inspired from some actual events in the history of Kashmir. Mumtaz was a beautiful woman whose husband was killed by his enemies, who were the same people who had earlier slain her father and sister. Mumtaz vowed never to marry for vengeance for what they did to her family, but she fell in love with Rajkumar, an innocent young man living nearby. After a few years, Rajkumar also fell in love with Mumtaz and they decided to marry. The family of the Mumtaz' were outraged by their daughter wedding a commoner as it was not acceptable for a member of the Kashmiri royal family to marry a commoner as this is against the tradition at that time. However, they were forced to accept his decision as the members of Kashmiri royal family could have been killed by their enemies if they refused to let Rajkumar do so. The court was presided over by a judge, who was a man named Keshav. The judge had a younger brother named Dayanand. Dayanand was a member of the Kashmiri royal family and he was also Mumtaz's uncle. Due to the feud between them, the crown prince refused to do anything for Rajkumar and his family after their marriage. However, Dayanand decided to help them in every possible manner and gave them shelter in his house when Rajkumar’s father asked him to do so. He also helped Rajkumar by giving him enough food and clothing to survive after his father's death. After a few years, Dayanand fell in love with Mumtaz as he felt so bad about the feud between the Kashmiri royal families and decided to marry her. The movie is based on a true story of Rajkumar and his family who were forced to flee Kashmir and lived happily in India after seven years of living there. cfa1e77820
